We should have a summer sports tournament

In Room 6 we have been learning about how to write a piece of persuasive writing. We were giving 4 subjects to write about and it all has something to do with school. I chose to write about having summer sports tournament. We had to plan it first so we can write it smoothly then we began writing our persuasive writing.

What I need to work on: Using strong vocabulary in my writing to hook the reader in.
What I enjoyed: Getting to plan my writing.
What I found hard: Thinking about my arguments.

We should have a summer sport tournament

I believe that our school should have a summer sports tournament. This can help with students fidgeting while sitting on the mat or if they suddenly get talkative.

Extra Energy
People who have extra energy can get fidgety. This can affect how they do their work and how they act during class. Students get fidgety when on the mat which can cause them to not listen to the teacher and what they are supposed to do afterward. This can also distract others who are trying to listen to the teacher. The classroom teacher can also be affected because they’d have to tell the student to stop fidgeting so they can understand what to do next.

New Things
Having a summer sports tournament can encourage students to try a new sport. The coaches of these new sports can show leadership by telling his/her team how to play the sport and to help them develop their skills. Students can also meet new people while versing different teams or during break times. Getting out of the classroom With the summer sports, students can get fresh air along with the teachers. The classroom can get pretty hot because it is summer. The school can also save electricity because while the students are gone the classrooms wouldn’t have their AC on. The teachers can also get out of teaching and it would give them less stress.

These are my reasons why I think we should have a summer sports tournament. Playing sports can help improve our stamina. It can also help with us being social!

Why it's important to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

In Room 6 we have been learning how to write a persuasive piece of writing. For our first try Mrs Sutherland gave us a link to a writing gallery where we can pick the topic we were going to write about. For our second try we had to come up with our own topic and I chose 'Why it's important to reduce, reuse and recycle' We  had to come up with a four step plan where we wrote in our arguments for the topic. Next we had to draft our writing and get all our ideas down. After, we started to proofread our writing to correct any mistakes we

What I enjoyed: was getting to write about the topic I want.
What I need to work on: Using links between my writing
What I found hard: Choosing the topic I want to write about.

Why it’s important to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Did you know that most waste that you throw away and see on the road sometimes end up at the sea and landfills? The waste that we throw away kills marine life like turtles, whales, dolphins, etc. Our waste can affect our climate that could lead to climate change.

Plastic
Generally, our plastic can take up to 1000 years to break down in landfills. Not only the marine life could suffer because of this but also the birds who hunt fish. This is because they can get tangled with fragments of plastic, which causes them to drown and cause of asphyxia (pronounced as as-fik-sia). This waste kills more than a million seabirds a year. The amount of plastic waste is currently estimated is 100 Million tons of plastic. In the north-central part of the Pacific ocean, there was found a plastic island also known as The Pacific trash vortex. The patch contains at least 79,000 tons of discarded plastic.

 Landfills
Even though we put plastic and other garbage in the bin, it still doesn’t help the fact that it gets put in landfills. For those who don’t know, Landfills are holes on the ground where our waste goes and gets buried. This waste needs 1000 years to break down. The plastic in these landfills can contain some type of chemical that can spread through groundwater, which can be the water we drink later on.

Marine Animals
Thousands of turtles, whales, seals, birds and other sea animals are killed every year because of Plastic. These animals mistake plastic as food and eat them. Once the plastic is ingested it cannot be digested so it stays in the gut. Likewise, plastic contains chemicals that can damage their stomachs. This can also cause starvation, plastic cannot be digested meaning it takes up room in their stomach which later on causes starvation. Some of the marine animals are highly intelligent, for example, a dolphin, they would most likely not eat plastic but they may eat prey that has eaten plastic which means that the plastic gets transferred through them. According to the University of Queensland, more than half of the world’s turtles have ingested plastic.

Our Environment
Plastic is used around the world today and is one of the most convenient things we have, although it is not that convenient for our environment. When plastic gets in contact with soil, it makes it less fertile. Plastic slowly releases toxic chemicals that can cause pollution. Plastics take 1000 years to break down so the damage to our environment is long-lasting. Plastic can cause land pollution, water pollution, and air pollution.

Reusing, Reducing and Recycling is easy. You can help our environment by recycling what you can, picking up litter from the road and recycle it, bringing your reusable bags when shopping, etc. Doing the 3 Rs are better than risking marine animal’s lives, the environment, and even our health. This is why I think Reuse, Reduce and recycling is important to do.

The man in the cabin

WALT:

  • Use paragraphs to link similar ideas together
  • write in structured, well developed paragraphs that flow well from one to the next within the text
  • use linking words and phrases to link paragraphs for effect

This week in Room 6 we had to write descriptive paragraphs based on a picture. The first thing we did was do some learning about writing paragraphs eg: how we can link our paragraphs, what goes in a paragraph etc. We were shown a picture and we had to write about that picture, but before that we brainstormed about it. In our  brainstorm we had the five senses which are: Feel, Hear, See, Taste and Smell. After that we created our paragraphs.

What I found hard: was trying to link my paragraphs
What I need to work on: Make my writing more descriptive and use strong vocabulary.
What I enjoyed: Was writing my paragraphs.

As he sat alone in the corner of the abandoned cabin, memories flood back in his mind. From the day he got kicked out of his house to the day he was having the time of his life with his friends and his family. He missed those days when he was free with his friends along with his family. But now? He was here in an old neglected cabin. He’s been in there for days, Starving, miserable and most of all missing the comfort his friends and his family gave him. He’s been out a few times just to find food and water to drink and eat. He hasn’t had a proper meal since the day he got kicked out. While he was sitting having a walk through his memories, his stomach grumbled indicating that he was hungry. He groaned annoyed. “Why do you have to be hungry now?” He mumbled looking out the window where raindrops slid down.

The man got up and limped over to the old table where he puts leftover meals. When he sees just an apple there he groaned. He looked out the window again having a fight with himself in his mind if he should go out to get food or if he should stay in the cabin where it is dry. “If I go out I might get sick” he mumbled. He furrowed his eyebrows “But if I stay here I will starve” he mumbled again. He sighed not knowing what the right decision is. The man settled with staying in the damp, but dry cabin so that he wouldn’t get sick later on. He also ate the apple that sat on his table to keep his stomach happy, he took the apple and limped back over to the corner of the cabin. The man bit his apple and made a nauseated face. "Aish why does this have to be a bad apple?" He complained to himself. Just then a roar of thunder came from the outside which made him bolt upright. He sighed "Seems like I made the right decision of staying inside." He mumbled.

After eating his not-so-good apple, the man entered dreamland. He managed to sleep in an uncomfortable position. Nevertheless, it's good that the man was able to sleep, despite the position he is on right now but he hasn't slept for more than 24 hours now. He was in a sitting position, his back was against the wall with his feet out. His head fell to the side, which would probably give him a neck ache later on when he wakes up.

Laughter was heard in the scene. The man stood in the middle of a flower field, in decent clothes. "This must be a dream" The man mouthed. A group of boys are sitting at a picnic table at the far end of the flower field. They were all laughing and having fun. The man smiled at the sight of friends smiling and laughing. The man turned his gaze to the other side of the flower field across his friends. There stood his wife and their children, laughing and having fun having each other's company. The man tried to walk towards them but his feet were glued to the ground. He looked at his feet and they were fine. There wasn’t anything pulling it down. The man tried to move towards them again but failed miserably. Now, something was pulling him down to earth. Something like a hand that he couldn't see. The man grumbled completely frustrated with his situation. The man struggled to get out of the stronghold. It just kept on pulling him until mud was seen on his knees. He let out a whimper. He used all his strength to fight the stronghold. Next thing the man knows his vision turned pitch black...

The man bolted upright after his horrible dream. His breaths were heavy. The man groaned as pain shot through his body, quickly regretting bolting upright. The man placed his hand against his forehead feeling the sweat sliding down. He closed his eyes focusing on his breathing before he does something else. As his breath went back to its normal rhythm, the man sat up straight and let out a sigh. "I wonder when they will realise I'm here" The man muttered. Just then a knock on the door was heard making the man's attention shift to the door...

Script Writing

This week our topic for writing was script writing. Our student teacher, Ms Ellis told us the structure of a script. We had to plan what we were going to be writing about and the characters we were going to include in our writing. For our characters we had to plan what their hair colour is going to be, what their favourite memory is, what their age is, what their name is etc. We had to be creative to produce a character to be put in our script. As for the actual script, the first time we did write a script we had to write about our main character's favourite memory or the worst thing that ever happened to them. These were planned and all we had to do was write a whole script about the scenario!

Something I enjoyed about writing my script was being able to be creative and make my own characters and giving them personality. Something I should work on is using more strong vocabulary in my writing to describe the scenario and hook my reader in. Something I found interesting was how to write a script because the structure of a script writing was different from my normal type of writing.

A letter to Angie!

It was a usual day for Angie. She was in her room reading a book called ‘Diary of the wimpy kid.’ and humming along with her favourite song ‘Euphoria’ by a Kpop idol called Jungkook.

Angie stops what she was doing and puts her bookmark in her book and stopped the music coming from her phone because of the knock on the door.

 Angie: “Come in!”

Her little brother Mark comes in

Mark: “Hey Angie there’s a man outside our door that wants you apparently.”
Angie: “Huh? Why, What is it about?”
Mark: “They said there was a letter addressed to you?”
Angie: “Oh Okay I’ll be down in a minute”

Mark nods and exits Angie’s Room. Angie stands up from her bed and puts her book back in the space her book shelf has. She grabs her phone and puts in her pocket. She exits her room and went downstairs to meet her brother, Mark. When Angie got down she saw Mark and the mail man arguing. She sighs.

Mark: “But I can just give it to her!”
Mail Man: “I’m sorry but I just can’t give it to you!”

Mark heavily sighs…

 Mark: “Please?”

Angie walks over to them and taps Mark’s shoulder getting his attention. Mark turns around to face Angie.

Angie: “Go run along Mark, I’ll take over”

Mark nods and walks away from the door. Angie watched him walk away and faced the mail man again.

 Angie: “I’m sorry about that.”
Mail Man: “It’s alright. Here is your letter”

The Mail man smiles reassuringly and gave Angie her letter.

Angie: “Thank you”

Angie smiles at the mailman and takes her letter.

Mail Man: “No worries! I should get going now”

Angie nods, the mail man walks away to go deliver some more mail. Angie goes inside and closes the door and goes back to her room. She sees Mark sitting on her bed playing on his phone.

 Angie: “What are you doing?”

 Angie asked annoyed.

 Mark: “Who’s the letter from?”

Mark asked looking up from his phone screen to talk to Angie.

Angie: “None of your business Mark. Can you get out now?”

Mark groans but he knew better not to annoy his sister so he goes out and does his own business. Angie then takes Mark’s seat on her bed and opens the letter…

 Angie: “Dear Angie….”

Angie trails off as she starts to read to herself. As Angie reads on her eyes sparkled and her smile grew wider. Angie finishes reading her letter and lets out a squeal. Mark barges in.

 Mark: “What? What’s wrong?”
Mark asked a worried expression plastered on his face.

Angie: “Mark! I got in the company!”

Angie says excitedly making Mark sigh in relief.

Mark: “Wah I thought something bad happened! Congrats!”
Angie: “Thanks! Let’s celebrate! I’ll treat you pizza!”

Mark’s eyes sparkles at the sound of pizza. He jumps around.

Mark: “What are you waiting for? Let’s go!”

The two siblings exits Angie’s room to get pizza to celebrate her getting in the company she wanted to be in.

Character Description(Mother's day)

WALT: write a character description using 'show not tell' in our writing.

In Room 6 we have been learning about writing Character Description. For this writing we had to write a character description about our mother or another significant female in our lives. I choose my mum because Mother's day is coming up. We had to write four paragraphs describing their Physical Features, their Behaviour, reputation(how this person affects other people) and Environment and Belongings(How this person likes their surroundings)

What I did well: Using a different language in my writing to make it more interesting(I used Tagalog/Filipino)
What I enjoyed: Writing about my mother.
What I need to work on: Finishing faster but with a lot of detail.

My Mother,

In the year 1978 and child named Liezl entered the world, now she is my mother. Your smile is bright and cheerful. Your eyes are always shining making it look like you have the stars in your eyes. Your black medium length hair is always tied and fluffy.

You always use your calm voice even though you are annoyed. You spread your positiveness around and put everyone in a good mood. You never let us go through anything alone and will do anything to make us happy. You would work hard for us to give us the things we need in life.

You always try your best to cheer us up if we were feeling down. You always put others before yourself. You like taking care of others and making them feel like a someone. You have a very passionate heart. You know when we are not feeling the best and you would try your best to comfort us.

My mum likes to have a clean environment so she would ask us “Gawin niyo na yung mga gawaing bahay!” (Do your chores) and we would always reply with “Wait lang!” (Wait) but we would always end up not doing our chores, but she will still love us the same way.

My mum is very caring. We love her very dearly. Mahal Kita Mum!(I Love you mum)

Character Description

WALT: Write a character description using 'show not tell' in our writing.

In Room 6 we read a book called 'Pig the star' We had to write character descriptions about either Pig or Trevor(Pig's Sausage dog friend) I wrote my character Description about Trevor.

Something I found hard: was writing my character description with the 'show not tell'
Something I found easy: Was creating the sentences that were needed to make the paragraph

Trevor -  He has floppy ears that cover the side of his head. Trevor has sausage like body along with small legs. He has a small tail like a stick. He shows this gloomy feeling by his eyes because of being with pig so much. His snout is long with a black nose at the end of it.

Trevor is a very quiet dog, he isn’t like Pig he doesn’t want to be the centre of attention. He is very compassionate to others including Pig even though Pig hasn’t been treating him the best. He is a shy dog and lets Pig have the attention. He would only have the confidence to shine when he can, but if he does shine he would still be humble and kind towards others and Pig.

Trevor is a disciplined dog which makes Pig do whatever he wants to him. Trevor is also forgiving which causes Pig to continue being big headed. He tries to ignore Pig’s rude and careless behaviour which makes Pig irritated. Trevor’s quietness makes Pig more confident and steal his limelight.

Trevor’s a very organised dog, like some type of perfectionist. He doesn’t like to see his things out of place, if he does see one thing out of place he would put it right back where it belongs. He isn’t that type of person who would leave his clothes laying around the floor. He likes to put his belongings where he can find them easily when he needs them.

Innocent or Guilty?

WALT:  Know how to write a news paper report.
In Room 6 we read a book called "Pig the Pug" We had to make a newspaper report about it. We can take any perspectives and write about it. I chose to write about when Pig the Pug falls out of the window.

Something I found hard: was trying to end the story. Another thing I found hard was using interesting vocabularies to hook the reader in.

Something I found easy: was writing the story(except the end) because I could be creative.

Pig the Pug’s Accident

It was on a Wednesday March 22nd 2019 that Pig the Pug had his accident. Everything was going well during his day until the accident. A bystander(who does not want to be named) said that when the accident happened Trevor, Pig the Pug’s flatmate, was there with him this is where a question pops up, Is Trevor Innocent or is he guilty?

 Trevor the Sausage dog
After a bystander said that Trevor was there with Pig the Pug, he is interviewed. “No, I am innocent and I did nothing but stand there and listen to Pig until he falls.” Trevor says. While we interview Trevor more there are things happening in the hospital where Pig the Pug is.

 Pig the Pug
“Don’t believe Trevor, he took one of the toys from my stack which made my stack unstable! He cause this!” Pig the pug says. But is Pig telling the truth or is he trying to frame Trevor? Right now we have two questions that are left unsolved, Is Trevor really innocent or is he guilty? Is Pig the Pug telling the Truth or is he trying to frame Trevor? We aren’t sure if Trevor is the one telling the truth or if Pig is telling the truth.

 Bystanders
After interviewing Trevor and Pig, we decided to look for any bystanders to look at different point of views. “I think it was just an accident, Trevor was just watching as Pig falls, no one expected this.” A bystander across Pig the Pug’s flat said. “I think Trevor let his anger get the best of him and decided to pull one of Pig’s toys from the bottom and watch Pig as he falls off their flat window.” We aren’t sure which side to believe. Because our team is very confused with this situation, Trevor was put into trial along with Pig and the bystanders. As things get more suspicious, we are waiting for the results the trial will bring

 Trial
Today Trevor,Pig and the Bystanders were taken to court. “I swear Trevor pushed me!” Pig shouted “Excuse me Pig, but you were the one who was not thinking and made that unstable stack of toys!” Trevor snapped. After the trial, Trevor was found guilty and will be punished he said this “I’m tired of you Pig! You always blame me for the things you did wrong! This is why I did this!” Trevor took one of the toys from the bottom of Pig’s stack which made it unstable and make Pig lose his balance.

Writing To Describe(Unfinished)

WALT: Use a range of figurative language to describe a moment in time.

I was tired, alone and cold. Where was I? I stumbled upon a house. It was old. Well it looked like it was old because the walls were cracked the painting was almost gone and the tree leaves laid on the ground like a dead person, the plants were overgrown. It was abandoned. I wonder what happened. Without thinking I entered the old house. The inside of the house looked like a tornado has went past it. There were pieces of wood on the ground, there was broken pieces of the house everywhere, but I decided to keep walking. I checked one of the rooms and it wasn’t any better. I went to look around more, the more a looked around the more I was feeling someone was in here too. I stopped. I looked around the room and saw a shadow in the hallway. I froze. I didn’t know what to do nor what the thing that had the shadow was. I was just standing there frozen like a statue. But when I heard a dreadful noise my senses came back. What was that? I ran out of the room. I ran like my life depended on it, because right now my life probably depended on it. I ran to the front door but it was locked.

SLJ Lesson 1

Japan

For the Summer Learning Lesson we had to choose a country to study on. I chose Japan! Japan’s Capital City is called Tokyo. It is also one of the main cities in Japan. There are 5 main cities in Japan which are Tokyo(Capital), Kyoto, Hiroshima, Sendai and Osaka.

Japan is one of the countries in the Pacific Ocean. Japan is located to the east of Russia, China and Korea. Japan’s population is 127.1Million. Most people in Japan speak Japanese since it’s their official language. Their money currency is called a Yen [JPY]. Some relating population/Subgroup are Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Filipino, Brazilian Vietnamese and other.

Some of Japan’s national sports are Sumo wrestling, Baseball, Football(Soccer), Judo, Karate, Kendo. Japan’s National Icons are The Cherry blossom tree, Koi Fish, The red-crowned crane(Bird) The lychee fruit. Tokyo’s temperature in January is 10° / 2°. It is the start of winter on December all through February. Tokyo is in the middle part of Japan. The most commonly spoken language spoken in Tokyo is Japanese.

Did you know that Japan has 6,852 islands? Also due to the gases produced by power plants, Japan sometimes suffer from Acid Rain. I would love to go to Japan because of their Cherry Blossoms and their foods like Ramen and Sushi.

Splashy waterslide

WALT: Compose a poem about the Waterslide.

Splashy waterslide
Laughs and Screams filled that one spot. The waterslide.
People patiently waiting for their turn and talking to their friends.
The air was just filled with excitement feelings.
As people slid down, water splashed.
People began to get muddy, laughs were heard as they shrugged off the fact they were muddy.
This moment was one of the memorable things I observed during camp.

Can I do it?

WALT: write a descriptive recount about Senior camp.

For 3 days the Seniors went to camp. We went to Woodend camp.
We did some activities like Archery, Rock climbing etc. We had to write about something we thought we couldn't do but achieved it when we gave it a try.

Aero Jump

Aero Jump I wasn’t really looking forward to doing Aero jump. When we came to where the aero jump was held, we got given a number. I was a 7. Me, Zipporah, Siale and Dion were talking about doing backflips. I asked how to do it but I didn’t really get it. Dion says it was easy because he’s done it 2 years ago. I told him I would do a front flip instead.

It was Siale’s turn next. She kept on saying it hurts her thighs when she jumps. She promised she would do a front flip but she didn’t because of how the harness hurts her thighs. After about 2 people it was finally my turn. Dion told me to do a backflip but I didn’t have the guts to. I got on and started to jump. At first I tried to do a front flip but the harness was on the way so I got stuck(I got back on my normal form though) Then I did the backflip. I kept on telling myself “Lean back and tuck” it helps. Once I did it a rush of excited feelings came to me. “I DID IT!” I yelled out. Dion and Siale asked “What you did it?” and “Do it again!” So I did it again and it was fun! My friends encouraged me to do the backflip and it gave me the guts to do it. One of the funny things that happened was in Zipporah’s turn. Zipporah jumped like 2 times and did a backflip she wasn’t high enough so she face planted but we all laughed it off. Dion also wanted to do a backflip but then lost the guts to do so, so I encouraged him like what they did to me. After everyone was done me and Siale had another go and I did more backflips.

If it wasn’t for my friends giving me encouragement I wouldn’t have done a backflip and enjoy the Aero jump activity, I really thought I couldn’t do a backflip since I’m kind of scared of heights but my friends helped and I achieved what I wanted to do.

In the Museum

In the Museum….

“Mum! Where are we going for my birthday?”I asked
“Oh we’re going to the museum!” My mum replied
 “Ooo yay!” I said
I was excited to go to the museum, I haven’t been there for a really long time. I didn’t know that when we go to that museum, it could change our lives.

After about 10 minutes car drive, we finally arrived at the museum.
“Mum! It’s so big!” I said excitedly
“Yes yes I know.” My mum replied back
“Let’s go in….” I said.  So we went in the museum. When we walked in we saw this huge robot thing. It’s got claws it. “Wow…. “ I said speechless. I was so amazed about this robot thing. I wanted to touch it and stay with it. I felt protected. I didn’t want to leave but I also wanted to explore the rest of the museum so I said “I’m just going to explore the rest of the museum Mr. Robot. I’ll be back!”

I looked at the art on the walls, information about what they were. It was interesting. I thought about the robot again “what if it’s real?” I asked myself. “That would be ridiculous” I laughed. I looked at the rest of the art in the museum and some historical things. I got bored later on so I went back where the robot was.

When I got there I stared at the robot then something surprising happened. The robot moved it’s eye! “What was that?!” I said panicking a little. I then realised that the museum was closed and that no one was there anymore. I started to get worried and panicked. “What why hasn’t my mum looked for me?!” I asked myself panicking. I ran. I ran anywhere but where the robot was. “Thump Thump!” there was a loud noise. I started to cry. What would happen to me?! Is that the robot?! I hid in a room and curled up in a corner. Crying. I felt protected when I was with that robot but now….. “Thump Thump!” there was that sound again! I panicked, I needed my mum but she’s not here… Where could she be?

The Haunted Painting

It was on a Saturday morning when my family moved to a new house. I didn’t like it. Why? Well it looked kinda creepy. “Do you like the new house Anna?” Mum wondered. “Uh it’s okay I guess.” I replied. “Oh? You could go and wonder around the house while we get set up.” Mum suggested. So I did what I was told. There was a corridor. A long corridor with paintings displayed. I looked at one. There was a man and a women. “What?” I asked myself and walked off. I looked at more pictures but they weren’t the same as that one picture with the man and women. The other paintings were bright and colourful, but the one painting. “I wonder why.” I wondered.

“Anna! Time to go to bed!” Mum shouted from downstairs. “OK!” I replied back. It was 9pm I didn’t feel sleepy but I did shut my eyes for a bit. At least I thought it was a few minutes. I woke up in the middle of the night. Nothing to be heard. “I wonder if anyone’s awake.” I said. I went out of my bedroom and tiptoed to the stairs. When I saw the creepy painting I froze. It felt like someone was watching me. Because there was someone watching me. The eyes of the painting followed me down the corridor. Every step. I didn’t know what to do then “Thump! Thump!” there was a loud sound. “What was that!?” I said feeling panicky. I saw a shadow “What is that?!” I said. I ran downstairs not knowing where to go. I closed my eyes hoping it was a dream. But it wasn’t “Thump! Thump!” There’s the sound again! I didn’t want to go back upstairs because of the shadow I saw. I locked myself inside a room. “What am I going to do?!” That time I regret getting up from bed. I have no idea what to do. “Knock Knock” I heard a knock on the door. I gasped “What if that’s the shadow?!” I panicked. I tried not to scream. When I felt like the person went away. I went out when I saw the man in the picture. “AHHHH!!!” I screamed as loud as I can. “No one will help you…” The man said. “MUM!!!! DAD!!!” I screamed again. No one was coming….. I have no one now. “Hey look!” I said trying to trick him. He looks. I run away. I went to my parents’ room. No one. “Where could my parents be?!” I said panicking. I walked back. There was a sound when I walked by. It’s like a knocking on the floor. I lifted the carpet up. “There’s a trap door!” I said feeling excited. I opened the trap door. It was my parents! “Mum dad! There’s a man….” I said “We know and we need to get out of here!” They both said. There was a window on the secret room where my parents were, so we got out that way. I saw the man on my room. I ran before he could catch up.

Information Report

WALT: write an Information Report

Sacraments

Sacraments are a part of the church. You could receive all of the during your life here on Earth.

There are seven Sacraments which are Baptism, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Confirmation, Marriage, Anointing of the Sick and Holy Orders. Jesus is also a Sacrament of God because he mostly revealed what God was like when he was living here on Earth. Baptism,Eucharist and Confirmation is the three Sacraments of Initiation.

A Sacrament is a sign that people can see, which tells us something about the power and love of God whom cannot we cannot see.

Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation are the three Sacraments of Initiation. Baptism is the time when you get welcomed into God’s family and it is also the time when the original sin gets washed away(The original sin is the sin Adam and Eve made years ago.) Eucharist is when you get given the Body and Blood of Christ and receive him inside you. Confirmation is the time when you become a full member of the Church.

During these events they do some Ritual actions some of them are the Laying on of the hands which gets done by the Bishop in the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Laying on of the hands is not only done when you are confirmed, but it is also done when you are getting a blessing. Another Ritual action is pouring the Holy Water over the forehead, this is done when you are getting baptised. When you are receiving your First Holy Communion, one ritual action is turning the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ.

Throughout your life you will receive these Sacraments which shows you the power and love of God- Te Atua. As you receive the seven Sacraments God is watching over you and guiding you to successfully receive the Seven Sacraments.

Teachers

WALT: write a persuasive writing.
Today in room 8 we had to write a persuasive writing about why teachers need their original holiday and why they don't deserve a strike.

Reflection- Something I found hard was trying to figure out what the solution will be and something I found easy was writing my different ideas about why teachers need their original holiday and why they don't deserve a strike.

5-7-18
 To Whom It May Concern,
It has come to my attention that the teachers need will only have 4 weeks of the holidays and keep working the next and also they might be getting a strike.

I think that the teachers need their original holiday because half of their holiday they might be working and preparing the work for the students the next term. They also need time with their families because as I said they might’ve spent half of their holiday doing school work and hasn’t been able to spend much time with their families. They need the time to do some school work and they also need time to spend with their family.

I think that the teachers don’t deserve a strike because some of the children’s parents might be working that day and they can’t look after their children during the day so they might need to hire a babysitter and it will cost money, or they might have to not go to work that day.

Another reason I think that the teachers don’t deserve a strike is they have prepared school work for the students and if they get a strike the school work might not get finished on time and the work that they prepared will just not get finished.

The solution might be allowing the teachers to have their original holiday time because they deserve it and not let them have a strike because it doesn’t only affect them but it also affects the children’s parents.

The teachers already work for 8:00am to 4:00pm and they deserve their holiday and they don’t need a strike. They have prepared school work for students and that might not get finished on time if they get a strike.

 Yours Sincerely,
 Antonette

Why is Matariki so important?

WALT: to write an explanation writing about why Matariki is so important.

In Room 8 we have been learning about the constellation of Matariki and the myths behind it. After we learned about how we celebrated Matariki and what the myths are we needed to write an explanation writing about why Matariki is so important.

Reflection- Something I found hard was trying to figure out what to write for my Introduction and conclusion. Something I found easy was putting new ideas to my paragraphs.

Why Matariki is important

Matariki is important to the Māori people because in this time of year it is the Māori new year. It is their chance to be with their family and celebrate.

Family
During this time Māori people celebrate the Māori new year and be with their families they share their gifts eg: Time, Friendship, Love. They also have a meal together as a family. This is also a time for them to remember their loved ones who have passed away and they also tell stories to each other during this time.

 The New Year
Secondly this is also a time for them to set new goals for the New year and try to achieve it. They also need to plant food so they have something to eat during winter time. We are also reminded of the happy times from the past year.

 Past Year
Lastly this is also the time to reflect about the past year. We get reminded about our loved ones who have passed away. We can write new goals to try and achieve for the new year. This helps us look forward for the new year. We can celebrate the Māori new year with friends and families and write new goals for the upcoming year.
